Chilblains Treatment By PropProdiatry
As the temperatures plummet, we see patients many patients troubled by chilblains. The condition is caused in people with already very narrow blood vessels and the cold. It causes the smallest of the blood vessels to narrow even more, resulting in the blood struggling to get through to the toes. This often causes colour changes most notably white and can be very painful. We are so keen to help these patients at ProProdiatry and so here are our top tips and specially selected products for those suffering from this painful uncomfortable condition.
- Wear thick natural fibred socks – natural fibre socks will wick moisture away and help keep your feet dry. Either wear 2 pairs of socks or blister socks which have 2 layers. Check out our bamboo ‘Thought’ socks range.
- Wear dry shoes – wet shoes will make your feet much colder. Check out our ‘Drywarmers’ for shoes which are wonderful devices for drying out wet or damp shoes.
- Use a warming cream or balm – using a warming balm does increase the temperature of your feet. We notice a 2°c increase in patients’ feet with using ‘Gehwol warming balm’ which we stock in our reception.
- Don’t forget to keep your legs warm! People often forget to keep their legs warm too.
Of course, we encourage anyone with chilblains to come in and see us, and we can formulate a plan specific to each patient’s individual needs.
